BRIEF 1 – FINAL IMAGES

This project made me look at stock photography in a different way to that which I have used it in the past. By manipulating an image to create an alternative meaning, simply demonstrates how easily the media industry can display a photograph or other medium to evoke a certain emotional response for a specific (or non-specific) audience.  As I developed my images throughout the entire process, I discovered how I could tweak them even further to present any theme I wanted to.  For example, changing the facial expressions of some of the people I used could create an even angrier (or perhaps friendlier) tone, depending on what I decided to edit.

My approach to this brief certainly varied as I was going through it.  Initially, I wanted to create an image that changed the mood of something from positive to negative, which carried through to the final image, despite the images of what was being presented changing entirely from machines to people.  Nonetheless, I would certainly say that my final image does absolutely create a re-presentation of the original themes in the stock images.  By changing the quality of the images to appear as if they were 40s propaganda, I have ensured that the negative mood carries through.  It can also be said that there are definite links between political speakers and vocalists in music.  Both parties have a certain control over their audience, and completely capture the attention of those there.  While the intended theme of positivity at music events has indeed been lost, we can possibly say that the original theme of voicing an opinion (be that in speech or through song) still remains in the image despite the transformation.

From a technical perspective, I would say that I have achieved a good final image, although some touch ups on the final version (specifically blurring items in the background, or adding more features to make the images seem suitable to the time period) could be added to improve the images further.  Wholeheartedly though, I do believe that what I have created does fully accomplish the brief and has been done to a solid standard of quality.
